How long does implant treatment take?
Dental implant treatment usually takes 4–6 months from the initial consultation to the placement of the final crown, although the exact timeline varies from patient to patient.
The process generally involves several stages:
Initial consultation and assessment: Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums and may take X-rays or 3D scans to assess your bone and determine the best implant position.
Implant placement: The titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. The procedure itself is usually completed in one appointment.
Healing and integration: The implant typically needs around 2–3 months, sometimes longer, to integrate securely with the surrounding bone. This process is called osseointegration.
Abutment and crown: Once healing is complete, an abutment is attached to the implant and your custom-made crown is fitted.
Some patients may need additional treatment, such as a bone graft or sinus lift, before or during implant placement. This can extend the overall treatment time.
In some suitable cases, same-day or immediate implant treatment may be possible. Your dentist will assess your oral health, bone quality, and individual circumstances to determine the most appropriate treatment timeline.
